An Operational Schematic
Hey all... I worked up a visual diagram to propose an operational schematic for The Core. View it here on PDF: The Core Schematic
This is probably not something you can glance at. I recommend printing it out and sitting down with it when you have 15 minutes to make sense of it. Be sure to read the legend on page 2 in order to understand it, and please comment here with any questions or thoughts.
Have fun!

I love you, Ryan. You're quite the graphic designer and a pretty good illustrator. You're intelligent, good looking, fun to be around, good dresser, great musician...
Feeling good yet? :-)
I really mean those things. But I'm not a fan of the chart. For me, it's completely inaccessible. I took some time to look over it, but I lost interest about halfway through the descriptions of the different types of people. And without memorizing the "Legend", it's altogether useless (the Legend should be able to fit on the same page, and it should pale in size compared to the image). My rule for visual aids (which, by the way, is the only purpose for this. We can easily explain our structure in a more narrative format, but VA's are helpful for quick glancing) is that you need to be able to sum it up in 10 seconds or less, with little to no commentary. Otherwise, the point is moot.
If you're feeling bad, go back and read the first paragraph. Love you, bro. ;-)
If you would like any constructive suggestions, I would strongly favor more of a "tree diagram" or "balloon" diagram (does that make sense?). Some of the information, honestly, is just overkill for this type of thing. The details are best left to the text. The #1 rule of visual aides is KISS (Keep It Short and Simple). Other rules include: Emphasize contrasts moreso than color; Avoid clutter; and Avoid ambiguity
If you boil it down, you need to answer this question succinctly in visual form: How does The Core do what she does?
Something else that would be helpful a little ways down the line would be answering this question in visual format: What is your vision and how do you anticipate accomplishing it? The concentric circle "purpose driven" model is an example of this (though we certainly wouldn't adopt it).

P.S.
Try to envision me saying this with a puppy dog expression on my face and a gentle hand on your shoulder rather than Donald Trump with arms folded and eyebrow scrunched. This will help. :)

I hear ya, but I think I should have been more clear about my intended purpose.
This diagram would only be intended for people who already have a pretty solid grasp of what The Core is, and what The Front Porch is.
It's complex, sure. But The Core is so multi-faceted, to create a simple operational diagram would be pretty unhelpful, in my opinion.
I could see using this diagram whenever we are discussing a new activity, event or program. This will help answer questions like "Who is responsible for this?" and "Who are we trying to minister to?" Also... it may help us to make sure we're not letting certain types of people fall through the cracks.
But for now, I guess I understand if nobody's hip to the chart. But I will keep it with me, and whenever I think it will come in handy, that's when I'll whip it out. When that time comes, I think people will start to see its purpose and usefulness.

I think it'd take a lot less time to just have a discussion about who's responsible for what than to decipher the chart, but I could be wrong. If you'd like to refer to it personally, have at it, but for it to be useful to me (or anyone else) it has to be user friendly.

Part of the reason it's so complicated is because it's got everything on there all at once. If we're just talking about one thing at a time, all the stuff that doesn't relate to that one thing can be removed.
