Team Member Covenant, Take 4
I believe we may be approaching a final draft. I have scripture references to back up each point now, and I've added an explanation, and a signature page. Here's a link:

Speak up y'all... it's time to be heard!

Glory, hallelujah! I have no recommendations for improvement. I do think that the contract will be intimidating to some people, but I'm all for it. I think that if we're upfront with what's expected of team members and aren't like, "Oh, by the way, you have to sign this," then it won't freak people out.
The only thing I questioned (and I'm not saying it should necessarily change) was the ultimatim of growth. Will there be some sort of demotion if someone "backslides" within that year? I know for me, I have highs and lows throughout the entire year. If I did a self-evaluation today, it'd probably be completely different than it would be next week, or even tomorrow. But I understand that this is supposed to be overall. My temper flares up on occasion, but Melissa will tell you that overall, I am a vastly more self-controlled person than I was 4 years ago. But I guess I'm just wondering what we're "threatening to do" if people have a bad year.

Good question...
I had tried to answer that before, but to be more clear, I added a "Purpose" section to the explanation. I think that will answer your questions, and hopefully anyone else's. Also, I added a score sheet at the end.

Ooh, ooh, I have an idea! Wouldn't it be cool if each question had a graphic of a belt beneath it, each with 10 notches, and we had to color in the notch that corresponded to our score? That would just help make it so vivid, you know.

In case you couldn't tell from my last comment, I'm becoming increasingly less fond of the scoring idea the more i think about it. I printed the 5 pages out for Melissa to read, and the first thing she said was, "I don't like the scoring part." We talked about it for a while (I waited before telling her I wasn't too keen on it either), and listed a number of reasons. The first one is that is just feels legalistic. The second one is it's a very unrelational method no matter how much discussion goes along with it. And the third, and probably biggest, reason is that it's going to give potential team members the wrong impression.
Melissa and I both feel strongly that we should instead focus on goal-making and regular confession to one another. I think the evaluation would be a good tool for accountability, which each team member will need to be a part of on at least a weekly basis. We're pretty confident that if we're confessing our shortcomings and celebrating our victories regularly, that we won't have to worry about some silly scale. If a person makes it a whole year without anyone noticing their spiritual decline, then we've completely missed the point to begin with. We ought not allow such a thing to happen. If someone does start to slip, we need to hold up their arms right away. And if they want to reject God, then it's pretty safe to say they won't be around for an evaluation!
So we like the idea of making goals and using the covenant for regular accountability.
