Doing My Own Stunts

I decided today that a pastor doing his own graphics is a little like an actor doing his own stunts. It’s fun, but dangerous.

So I thought I’d take a post here to reminisce on all the dangerous fun I’ve had so far with my sermon graphics. Some are slides for a whole series, and some for a single message, but anyway… here are my favorites.

  1. It would only be dangerous if you weren’t awesome at it. I just can’t believe you have the time to do it! I can’t even find time to decorate my office. Sheesh.

  2. I don’t know if I’m “awesome” at it, but I appreciate the compliment! Sometimes the better you are at it, the more dangerous it can be. Just like church music… the better it is, the more likely it is to become an idol and a distraction.

But yeah, it can be difficult to find the time. Fortunately, doing graphic design at a print shop has taught me to work fast, and not to linger over foolish attempts at perfection.

  3. “Foolish attempts at perfection.” That pretty much sums up a lot of my own folly. Problem is, when that’s always my goal and I’m juggling a lot of different responsibilities, I get very anxious, and then discouraged, and then more anxious, etc. God is teaching me right now about my limits and it’s painful.
